"Which Scent is best for . . ."

A scent isn't just a Fragrance -- it's a Memory.

These nostalgic ties aren't just a coincidence -- there's science behind why we cherish these aromas.

Our response is directly linked to the emotional centre of our brain, unlike Touch or Taste, Scents are directly correlated with past experiences.

Aside from their memory-inducing powers, certain Scents can also do amazing things for our Mind, Body and Soul. From Stress Relief to Headache Relief, certain Aromas have a way of making an impact, whether that be Negatively or Positively.

                                                      Did you know . . . ?

There are around 5 million receptor cells in the human nose compared to 200 million in a dog’s nasal passages, Our sense of smell may not be as good as that of most animals but it has a major role in the Emotions and in both Physical and Mental Health.                                                             Aromatherapy uses an extraction of volatile, or aromatic, compounds from plants and delivers them to the body via vapor or a topical solution. The purpose of the process is to alter mood, cognitive function or health.                                Essential oils were traditionally used as antiseptics because they prevent infections. But over time, the focus on the benefits of these Oils has shifted. In the past, they were used as topical treatments whereas now, they are used to influence the brain. It is believed that aromatic compounds are absorbed through the olfactory system (nasal) where they interact with the brain’s limbic system and this interaction creates a minor and temporary change in brain chemistry.

Aromatics are one of the more fascinating areas of Organic Chemistry. Aromas have a chemical structure all their own.  For example, one of the more distinct Aromatherapy scents from a Pineapple is created by the presence of Methyl Butyrate ~ which plays a powerful role in Brain Function and Health plus it may help prevent Brain Disorders.  Roses smell lovely thanks to the compound Geranyl Acetate ~ assists human mental health by Reducing Stress and improving Mood, and also the refreshing scent of Lemongrass is due to the chemical compound Citronella which fights Depression and gives Relief from Anxiety and Sadness.

Incense and Aromatherapy go hand in hand. With the correctly scented incense, one can actually use its healing powers to:                     reduce and calm anxiety, stress, and fear, alleviate insomnia, accelerate healing. You can also help stimulate and renew energy, cleanse the atmosphere, and prepare for meditation and prayer. The aromatic smell that burning incense releases stimulates the olfactory nerves.

This stimulation is able to produce effects of various states such as physical, emotional, and psychological based on the fragrance. One interesting fact to note is that many of the ingredients used in incense don't have any smell unless they are burned.
